Welcome
to the Rush Section.
What is Phi Kappa Tau
Phi Kappa Tau is a fraternity whose
members add to the unique chapter personality. We are not
an organization that molds its members into one single personality,
but a chapter shaped by our members’ individualism. We are
a chapter that is an ever-evolving institute that changes
over time, only to better itself.
Who are the Men of Phi
Kappa Tau?
Phi Kappa Tau is a group of men at
West Virginia University Institute of Technology with different
interests and ambitions. By sharing those interest and talents
these men have found a more meaningful college experience.
For some members, this experience has provided friendships
that will last a lifetime. Others see the group as providing
help in achieving their academic and career goals. Still others
find a place they can call home. Ultimately, this group is
a fraternity where we all belong.
Our Goal:
Our goal is to provide opportunities
to our brothers and associates to better themselves in academics,
develop leadership, extend their friendships, participate
in athletics, to provide a social atmosphere and above all
realize their potential.
Academics:
Like all students, our primary
purpose here at WVU Tech is academics. Phi Kappa Tau emphasizes this as its
highest priority. We offer group study
sessions, old test files, and a wealth of knowledge and experience from our
elder brothers to help you reach your full potential as a student.
Leadership:
Phi Kappa Tau takes pride in giving
their brothers the opportunities to develop and use their leadership skills. In
the work force, there are leaders and there are followers. We are an academy
developing those leaders. As businessmen of the future, we must know how to
lead the work force in order to be successful. Throughout the semester, academic
career and lifetime of being a Phi Tau we do numerous things to better
ourselves as leaders. We attend our
national Fraternity Leadership Academy, leadership workshops held by other
Chapters, domain conferences and perform community fundraisers for our charity
the “Hole in the Wall Gang.”
Friendships:
Being a student on a small campus
can be overwhelming. The fear of becoming “just a face in the crowd” still
exists. Joining a fraternity is a great way meet people and become part of a
larger organization. Fraternities also offer opportunities to develop
relationships with the college students and staff; these opportunities can
develop into life-long friendships. Friendships last a lifetime with good
memories and accomplishments, which is why Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity is built on
friendships, and not numbers.
Athletics:
Athletics is a great way to make
your college experience more enjoyable. Phi Kappa Tau offers participation in
intramural sports, Greek Week and competitions among other Phi Tau chapters.
Intramural sports are very popular at Tech, but it’s
sometimes hard to get enough people to participate. Phi Tau’s not only have a
base of active brothers to participate, but also friends not even affiliated
with the Fraternity.
Greek Week is the biggest inter-fraternity competition of
the year. Once a year, all the Greeks get together and complete among various
events to determine an overall champion. Since our chapter’s beginning in 1985
we have been overall Greek Week Champion in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1994, 1997 and
1998.
Other athletic events we participate in are with other Phi
Tau chapters. These chapters host events such as 3 on 3 basketball, golf and
softball. These events are mostly for
charity, for which we provide our support.
Social Atmosphere:
What better place to look for social
activity than a social fraternity? It’s well known that Montgomery doesn’t
offer much opportunity to socialize. Every once in awhile you need a chance to
“blow off steam” or you will eventually find yourself “burnt out”.
Consequently, we offer opportunities for social gatherings, road trips,
cookouts and a multitude of other events. We provide these opportunities to our
brothers and associates, and they get to choose to participate in any or all
that they choose.
Men of Character:
With
the experience, opportunities and brotherhood Phi Kappa Tau offers, they
provide the utmost quality: Men of Character
A man’s character is determined by his real world experience.
When a student graduates, he usually doesn’t have that experience.
Fraternities provide its members with experience they will
be able to apply to their chosen career. This gives fraternity
men an advantage, and this is why they are statistically more
successful after college.
Being part of a fraternity is much like being in charge of
a business. One is given the opportunity to make it succeed or fail. One’s
character will be challenged by those opportunities and the decisions needed to
make it successful.
The fraternal brotherhood
of Phi Kappa Tau exists to help develop character. The brotherhood makes sure
you never make a decision alone; you have the experience of others and their
guidance when you need it. Your brothers are also developing their character
and together you’ll only make yourselves better and by so doing, make the
chapter better.
We understand that character counts and that’s why we pride
ourselves on building Men of Character.
